Rapijet GA - Garnet

Garnet is a naturally occurring mineral found as a component of some sands in Western Australia, Eastern India and parts of China. There are three types of garnet sand: Beach Garnet (Australian or Indian), River Bed Garnet (Indian) and Rock Garnet (Chinese). The best garnets are beach garnets as they are very hard and very clean. River bed garnets are slightly softer and tend to dust a little on impact. The third type of garnet, rock garnet, is the cheapest garnet and is produced through crushing rocks that have garnet deposits within them. The effect of this crushing does produce instabilities in the structure of the rock garnet, meaning that a dustier blast may take place.
Environmentally Friendly Abrasive
All garnets are relatively economic to produce, and a quality garnet will have little environmental impact in its mining, as the bulk of the sand taken is put back again after washing the garnet element out of the raw sand. Garnet is also naturally non toxic (prior to being used) and has no free silica. All silicates are less than 1% of total volume and are chemically linked to the garnet, so there is no risk of silicosis to the operator.

Garnet is a fantastic blast abrasive as it has an excellent cut speed, great coverage (so will achieve good cleanliness) and can be recycled up to seven times, making it one of the most efficient and cost effective abrasives.
